Mental Health In Black Communities

Most colored parents do not believe in depression or being sad; they think that you have too much time on your hands and that you are just delusional. You are labeled as crazy and delusional, and that your friends might be influencing you, were taught always to be strong and never show our feelings on the outside in the Black community. Even as some people have been through some traumatic things, they believe they should not see a therapist because they like to keep things private, so people do not find out on the outside, and they are not embarrassed about it. In Caribbean culture, they believe in praying only and not
getting help. If you feel as if you are sad or having any type of depressive thoughts, you should get therapy or any help; mental health is very important. So many people commit suicide or go into a mental health hospital because they do not get the helpthey need or feel as if someone is there. If you ever need someone to talk to, always try to reach out to a friend or even an online therapist.
