The MENA Experience

The most recent DeepDive Talk Show delved into the Middle Eastern North African experience, also known as the MENA Experience. Dr. Rana Raddawi, holding a PhD in Translational Studies in Arabic/English/French, joined this conversation to bring her insight from her studies, as well as her lived experience, to shed light on the importance of intercultural communication and love when understanding and moving towards anti-racism.

Leslie Rodriguez

My name is Leslie Rodriguez and I am packaging engineer at General Mills. I moved to Minnesota back in 2021 after graduating from the University of Florida where I majored in Material Science and Engineering. I joined ARCC because I felt called to help educate people on racism and how to become anti-racist. Being a part of ARCC and the Deep Dive team has taught me so much about the lived experiences of minorities in the US and how it has related to my life. As you listen and watch the stories told on the Deep Dive show, I welcome you to step into the shoes of these people and think about how your life experiences relate to them and how you can become an ally for all the communities here in the US.

Jeremiah Cox

I joined ARCC before it was even called ARCC, shortly after George Floyd had been murdered. I was interviewing Donzel Leggett for a commentary piece I was writing for our local newspaper, where I was trying to cultivate support for Black Lives Matter.  Low and behold, Donzel was building ARCC at the time, and he invited me to help him create the organization! Ever since, I have been involved with many different parts of ARCC, from managing the Instagram page, to creating the internship program, and of course, the DeepDive show!  I've been blessed to host this show with Adonai and the support of Leslie, and together we've been able to dig into several niche, unique facets of racism to learn alongside our audience and promote anti-racism.

Adonai Yidnekachew

My name is Adonai Yidnekachew, and I am passionate about educational equity, youth voice and community engagement. Growing up in a large family, I developed strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, which I apply in advocating for social justice and inclusivity. With this, I have led initiatives within my school like the SOAR Club where I work to educate others about anti-racism and celebrate our cultures. Within my work to advocate for youth voice, I am a part of the National Youth Leadership Council, to encourage youth to begin their own service-learning projects. I continue to strive to create spaces where diverse voices are valued and heard!
