    • During my internship with ARCC, I gained valuable experience in nonprofit fundraising and community engagement. Working closely with a small team gave me hands-on experience in relationship-building and communicating the mission of a social justice organization to diverse audiences.

Take your time to really understand the mission and the impact of the work—whether you're helping with fundraising, outreach, or events, don’t be afraid to ask questions, share ideas, and build relationships along the way.

  • Los Angeles, CA

  • What attracted you to apply for the ARCC internship?

    • During my last year of college, I was eager to find an experience that I felt truly excited about, and the opportunity at ARCC aligned with that because I was naturally drawn to the organization's mission and passion. I loved the idea of helping to build a community that makes the world a better place, all while learning from and working alongside incredibly kind and driven people!

  • What skills or experiences did you gain during your internship?

    • I gained a lot of valuable project management skills from the nature of my role, as it was a very hands-on experience navigating a project with a high level of autonomy. It was a great learning experience that helped refine my abilities to communicate, stay organized, work in a remote team, and understand what it means to take ownership and prioritize to see something through.

  • Can you share a favorite project or moment from your internship?

    • I loved all my interactions with my team + working with the members of ARCC overall. Even through a screen and hundreds of miles away, I could feel the warmth and kindness from everyone, as my managers were all very patient and supportive of me throughout the internship!

  • How has this internship influenced your career path or goals?

    • I think this internship helped me see what good leadership and teamwork looks like while giving me the confidence to work independently and have a high level of responsibility. At least in my current life now, I have a remote job that I love, working in a team with people I admire and feel comfortable around, which is very similar to my experience with ARCC : )

  • What advice would you give to future ARCC interns?

    • Don't be afraid to ask questions and speak up!! A community like ARCC is most vibrant through people and relationships, and I can promise any future intern that any member is happy to help you out. It's a great and safe space to learn, step out of your comfort zone, and really feel like your work is meaningful.

Selma Farsakh Ulm

  • Philadelphia, PA

  • What attracted you to apply for the ARCC internship?

    • I wanted to work for an organization whose values aligned with mine. In my past internship, I worked for an organization professed to care about spreading non-partisan education about the American constitution. However, my previous employer received funding from many donors who had made their wealth off of systems of slavery and forced labor within the United States. ARCC works to disseminate information throughout America in a non-partisan way, yet their values shine through their work to stand up to this format of philanthropic racism. As someone with the training and tools to fundraise effectively, I felt drawn to ARCC to stand up to this philanthropic injustice I felt I was seeing, and work for an organization that truly aligned with my values.

  • Can you share a favorite project or moment from your internship?

    • Working with Enki Brewing on a month-long fundraising campaign with 4 anti-racist events for patrons!

  • How has this internship influenced your career path or goals?

    • I felt very enriched by my work with fellow interns and the board of ARCC. My summer with this great organization cemented my desire to work in non-profit management and development. I will be pursuing a Masters in Non-Profit leadership after I graduate from my Bachelor's program to gain more practical skills topical to building up innovative organizations like ARCC.

  • What advice would you give to future ARCC interns?

    • Take advantage of all the resources! Talk to everyone on your intern team and all the board members. Being in connection with other individuals of your age and older who care about Anti-Racist work in America is super helpful and inspiring during hard times. It will propel you in your personal growth and career to do so. Also: speak up when you think you can add to the conversation or make meaningful change. This is a key point of the ARCC curriculum but is also really helpful to deepening your relationships with your supervisors and peers, shaping your experience at ARCC/what you gain from your internship, and can influence great projects that feed you (and ARCC) back!
