The Moment I Said Yes
I have chosen volunteerism as my activity for ARCC because I think volunteering is one of the best uses of my time and my initiative. ARCC can provide me with a platform that allows me to share input, further my knowledge about racism, and help promote activities related to awareness and change activism.

I did have one experience that had an impact on me. I traveled to Africa and witnessed how children, at a young age, are treated poorly. The image that came to mind stayed with me for a while. It dawned on me that even children are not spared from being treated unfairly and with bias at a young age, a situation which I believe they will not fully grasp until later on. As a result, I concluded that it is important to be an advocate for someone who doesn’t have a voice, or for a situation wherein someone can’t express their opinion.
Volunteering with ARCC will allow me to turn that concern into practice. Instead of only caring about these issues, I will be able to put myself in an environment to help educate others, support constructive workers and projects, and actively participate in dialogue that will urge others to think differently. I chose to volunteer with ARCC because I feel that I will be able to use this opportunity to better myself, all while working for a cause that I care greatly about.
