Reflection: Why I Joined ARCC?

During my ARCC orientation, I reflected on my previous contributions to the coalition. I first joined ARCC as a Community In Action member and host. I remember sitting down with my classmates and co-hosts in high school to discuss topics for our upcoming meetings. I truly enjoyed having conversations with people who shared similar thoughts and experiences while also learning about the unique stories and perspectives of others.

Community In Action gave me a platform to express my opinions and share my experiences. Later, I was recruited as a paid intern in the summer of 2025, which allowed me to take on a larger role within the coalition. Through this position, I was able to see the inner workings of ARCC and gain a deeper understanding of what makes the coalition so impactful.

The internship also provided me with new opportunities, such as co-hosting the DeepDive podcast alongside Dazmine, another coalition member. Overall, this orientation gave me the chance to reflect on my journey with ARCC and appreciate how much I have grown through my involvement with the coalition.

I volunteered for ARCC because I believe it is important to stand up against racism and advocate for positive change in our communities. I first learned about ARCC through Ms. Lynne, my Take Stock in Children mentor. When she introduced the organization to us, I was immediately drawn to the message and values that ARCC represented. The coalition’s commitment to promoting equity, encouraging meaningful conversations, and challenging discrimination inspired me to become involved.

Speaking up for what is right has always been important to me, and ARCC seemed like the perfect place to do that. I saw it not only as an opportunity to use my voice, but also as a space where I could learn from others and gain a deeper understanding of the ways racism affects individuals and communities. Through ARCC, I hoped to educate myself on how to confront injustice and become an active participant in creating change.
