You Don’t Have to Figure Everything Out

There’s this weird pressure to have your entire life planned out by the time you hit high school. Like everyone believes the moment you turn 15, you have this magical new way of seeing life. Pick a university, commit to it. Pick a career, work towards it. Know exactly who you are and where you’re going and stick to it.

But the truth is, nobody actually has it all figured out. So, why do they put so much pressure on us? Even the people who look like they’re doing all the right things are making decisions and hoping they work out. Life isn’t a straight line; it’s messy, unpredictable, and constantly changing. So why does everyone try to straighten it?

We grew up believing that every decision is “Make or break,” but is it that serious? The reality is that you can switch majors and still graduate on time. You can change your mind, and still end up where you want to be. You can walk away from what and who doesn’t feel right and still live a life full of love and excitement. This isn’t failure, it’s growth.

Unlike what many people believe, it’s ok to be lost sometimes. You don’t always need a clear plan. You’re not behind just because you’re going at a different pace than someone else; you will both reach the finish line at your own time. Everyone has their own pace in life, even if so many have led you to believe otherwise. You’re not the only one struggling.

Confusion is failure; it’s part of growing up. Make mistakes. Change your career, your major. Take the next step to whatever feels right to you, and if you don’t know, at the end of the day it’s ok you’re allowed to figure this out as you go.

This is life. A rollercoaster of ups and downs not a straight path.
