‘Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.’ I saw this quote by Howard Thurman over a decade ago and it resonated so deeply with me. I feel like my life purpose is to help more people come alive by witnessing and honoring their unique brilliance. The truest path to a world of people who have come alive is through anti-racism. We each belong here and every person has a story that is worth being heard. Even those in my life who I’ve committed to transform (I’m starting with 10) – I can’t just preach at them, I really need to listen to them and understand their perspective as well. We will both learn more together, and I think their hearts will be more open if my heart still accepts and loves them, too. We are all flawed on this journey and accepting that will make change possible.
