Why I joined ARCC?

Like others here, I am a white person who has long enjoyed my “cocoon” of privilege. I’ve strived to be inclusive and respect others. This was a comfortable place for me, I felt I was doing my part. But in 2020, it became uncomfortable. Something changed for me – whether it’s been the political climate, the discrimination and cruelty against immigrant communities, the unemployment and food insecurity disproportionately impacting people of color during COVID, or the needless deaths of unarmed black men and women – I knew I needed to move from empathy to action. I am admittedly at the very beginning of my journey. ARCC gives me a community I can learn with and learn to ACT with. I hope that together with my network, our actions can help eradicate policies, practices, and norms that enable the structural injustices in today’s world.
