Growing up I believed that I lived in a town originated by white culture which kept everyone of that race at a hierarchy in class level. Little did I know that there were many cultures that impacted the island’s communal upbringing and many other races that played significant roles in the service field. I also believed racism did not exist is my safe little island. Boy was I wrong. A close friend of mine experienced it first hand by simply being nominated on the homecoming court, a tradition the white girls train all their lives for. “Who voted for this black girl?” (she won btw).
