Joining ARCC is the next piece on my anti-racism journey, holding myself accountable to learn as much as I can, continuing to hold elected leaders to a standard of anti-racism, pushing as hard as I can to drive the change to get 45 out of office and then the other really important step- push those in my network to become anti-racist. We have to continue to be uncomfortable, determined to dismantle racist systems to create a better world for our future generations. I have been involved in our community to speak out about racist incidents in our schools and have formed friendships with fellow community members I wouldn’t have had otherwise. We are bonded in that experience and commitment to one another during the process. We faced lots of backlash. I often think back to “A Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” written by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963. King spoke about his frustration with the “White Moderate” “Who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action.” This still holds true to this day! We all need to step up and rise to the challenge of eradicating racism. The time for sitting on the fence is over. Excited to join ARCC and spread anti-racism! And proud of my husband Donzel for creating this organization with such a great team. Let’s do this!
